Hello Dooby and All,

I went to the US govt's' PubMed site to look for the Medical Study Abstract (that I thought was) about tobacco smoking and lung cancer, tobacco and cannabis smoking and lung cancer, but I didn't see it there.

I then dug up the thread at the Medical Board of this site where daddy cool, I and others talked about these topics.

**Most unfortunately, it *appears* that my memory of these issues IS NOT completely correct.

At any rate, in this Medical Board thread, the Dr. Tashkin Study that we discuss deals with the decline of ~ lung function w/ age and with tobacco smoking and with cannabis smoking.

In this study, Dr. Tashkin found that while tobacco smokers suffered much steeper declines in lung function with age than non-smokers did, people who smoked BOTH Tobacco AND Cannabis had the same rate of lung function decline with aging that people who didn't smoke at all had. [I think that this is what this Tashkin Study found; I just glanced at this old thread quickly.]

*So, it seems that I was confused in my mind when I made my earlier posts in this thread - where I discussed how smoking Cannabis seems to protect the lungs of Tobacco smoker from getting Tobacco smoke-induced lung cancers.

*However, it is (just) still possible that Dr. Tashkin did ANOTHER study that found what I said (earlier in this thread) that Dr. Tashkin found about Cannabis smoking seemingly protecting the lungs of Tobacco smokers from getting lung cancer.

**Also, I'm (still) pretty sure that at least one, and I think two, human population studies have found that people who smoke Cannabis have fewer cancers than do non-smokers. For instance, I think that the large Kaiser Study found that women (at least) Cannabis smokers had fewer cancers than non-smokers did.

[See my earlier post in this thread that has info about this Kaiser Study.]

My ~ somewhat vague recollection is that there is at least one post *somewhere at this Cannabis.Com website that has info about the two(?) or three(?) [but at least one - the Kaiser Study] human population study/ies that found that Cannabis Smokers had fewer cancers than people who smoked nothing at all did, (and they lived longer than normal, too, as I recall.) Unfortunately, until the Search Feature of this website can be brought back online, it will be hard to find this post (or, these posts) about this, as I don't recall which board/s they were posted on. One or more posts about these topics was posted on the Politics Bd., but I don't recall when it was posted.]

*So... I think that what may have happened is that I became confused in my mind between the Tashkin Study that found that people who smoked BOTH Tobacco AND Cannabis had the same rate of decline in lung function with aging that non-smokers did, while people who smoked just Tobacco suffered a much faster rate in the decline of their lung function with aging than non-smokers did ... AND ... the Kaiser (and other study/ies?, too) that found that Cannabis Smokers don't have any more lung cancers than non-smokers do.

Note: right off hand, I can't recall exactly if the Kaiser Study found that Cannabis Smokers didn't have any more lung cancers than people who didn't smoke anything did, but I think that the author/s of this study discovered this. On the other hand, I am all but certain that the Kaiser Study author/s found that Cannabis Smokers had no more - or fewer - total number of cancer than people who didn't smoke anything at all did, and I think that they also found that Cannabis Smokers had no more - or fewer - lung cancer than people who didn't smoke anything at all did.

I'm sorry that I (apparently) became confused about these issues in my mind... AND that I spread my confusion online.

The link to the Medical Board thread where these topics were previously discussed is below. Thank you.

Pat
